Robert Thoelen worked approximately four years for a large company, before deciding to start his own consulting business. He has been successful in contracting with clients in the aerospace, legal, health care, and software tools business sectors. Robert has also advised several churches on web design, search engine optimization, and provided web hosting for them.

His experience as an employee and consultant in the aerospace sector includes support of the analysis of physics-based mathematical models, design and maintenance of automated test equipment, and writing test plans and calibration procedures for the test stands. He has an extensive background integrating systems on a test platform, such as real-time mathematical models, proprietary and off the shelf data acquisition systems, and electrical circuitry. The platforms he has worked to build and support have been used for high-level systems engineering testing, as well as software and hardware development, production acceptance testing, and EMI/Lightning testing.

Mr. Thoelen stays current on industry trends by reading publications such as IEEE Spectrum, IEEE Computer Magazine, EE Times, and Communications of the ACM. He also has taken self-study courses related to sales, project management, and marketing of high-tech companies by automated lead generation systems. He is currently studying Software Engineering in a Master's Degree program at Brandeis University.

He is involved in the community, as an active member of his church, with teaching and administrative responsibilities. He is also a guest speaker for ministers in the Connecticut/Western Massachusetts area when they are away from their congregation on vacation or other duties.  He is also involved in amateur radio and civil preparedness in Connecticut, completed several FEMA preparedness courses, and holds an advanced class Amateur Radio license, and GMRS license.
